David Glass

Mr. David Glass

David Glass graduated with an external LLB from the University of London (through study at the then Kingston Polytechnic) in 1972. He obtained an LLM, also from London University, in 1974. He has lectured in law since 1972. He lectured at Kingston Polytechnic from 1972 until 1976 and from 1977 onwards at Cardiff University in the School of Law which eventually became the Cardiff School of Law and Politics. He retired from his position as a Senior Lecturer in Law in 2019 but he still maintains contact with the School as an LLM teacher.
He has lectured and tutored in many different subjects over the years but in later years prior to retirement he tutored in Commercial Law on the LLB and lectured and tutored in International Sales and the Law of Carriage of Goods for the LLM International Commercial and Shipping Law Routes. He was also at various times the Route Convenor of the LLM International Commercial Law Route, the Route Convenor of the Shipping Law Programme and the Director of Postgraduate Taught Studies.

His main research interest for much of his career has lain generally in the law of carriage of goods with particular interest in freight forwarding, international carriage of goods by road and multimodal transport. Several of his articles have been published in Lloyd’s Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly and in Shipping and Transport International. For this last journal he was a member of the advisory panel.  His first book was (with C Cashmore). Introduction to the Law of Carriage of Goods by Land, Sea and Air, Sweet and Maxwell, 1989.
He continues to engage in research and is currently preparing (with A Messent) a new edition of Messent and Glass on the CMR Convention. He is also planning to produce a third edition of his book on Freight Forwarding and Multimodal Transport Contracts and a new book (with Mr A Rogers of Cardiff University) on Principles of the Law of Carriage of Goods.
